Who We Areyouth philanthropy initiative indiana

The Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana (YPII) is a signature statewide program of the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance. YPII is unique in that addition to providing technical assistance to 35 Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy Programs, we facilitate a Partner Network of 40+ community organizations that meet on a monthly basis to promote and raise awareness of youth philanthropy.

Locally based in Indianapolis, Indiana and nationally connected, YPII provides educational training, youth philanthropy research and philanthropic resources to community foundations, youth-serving organizations, schools, and families interested in teaching youth about giving and serving (philanthropy) in their communities.

Our History

The Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana (YPII) was formed in 2001 as a collaborative of nonprofits and foundations committed to engaging youth as active participants in philanthropy.  It has grown from eight interested parties to more than 40 community organizations representing a variety of youth-serving, faith-based, and philanthropic institutions throughout Indiana.

Our Mission

To grow lifelong philanthropists who give their time, talent and treasure for the common good.

Our Vision

That all young people are aware, educated, and actively involved in philanthropy within their local communities.

Our Guiding Principles

  • This initiative encourages youth and adult partnerships where youth are equal players.
  • A diverse inter-sector of public, private, and nonprofit collaborations provide leadership for the initiative.
  • This initiative is research-based, grounded in healthy youth development and builds on local community efforts.
  • Evaluation, learning, and sharing information are an important part of our work.
  • This initiative helps to build the capacity of local communities through networking, educational resources and trainings.
  • We are committed to sustainable statewide efforts over the long term that promote and raise awareness of youth philanthropy.
  • We encourage local youth philanthropy programs to incorporate the common threads of youth philanthropy: educational training, leadership development, grantmaking, community service, civic engagement, personal giving, and fund development.
